Insect Control

This section was updated - 13 April 2021

Aphids

Aphids are small (<2 mm), green or black, sucking insects that feed on the growing point and the undersides of leaves.

Control
See Table 2, Spinach Insect Control for control options.

Loopers and Other Caterpillars

These insects feed on leaves, leaving holes which can make the crop unmarketable.

Control
When damaged leaves are first seen, apply one of the products in Table 2, Spinach Insect Control.

Leafminers

White maggots of a small fly feed inside the leaves, causing colourless blotches.

Control
Use successive seedings and when the mines first appear, spray with one of the products in Table 2, Spinach Insect Control. Leafminers infest weeds as well, so keep fields and headlands weed-free.
